The Medieval Games (Ritterspiele) in Katzenelnbogen was exciting! There was a large encampment area with animal pens, a children’s area with themed “rides,” several food booths, of course an arena for the medieval games, and a giant market area to purchase costume items, medieval themed items, and various handcrafted items. I usually love to walk around and see every single thing. However, my migraine sent me home after seeing only about 1/3 of the festival grounds and only a few minutes of the jousting games.

Above: Salmon being smoked in one of the food tents. The smells were wonderful!
Below: Baskets and shelves of bottled fruit wine were everywhere. Flavors ranged from Blueberry to Dragon Wine.
Below: Children’s “rides” that are medieval themed. Don’t these look interesting? A hand-cranked swing ride and canons kids could shoot at the ship were my two favorite to see.
